157 top players from 45 Tennis Europe member nations are in Parma, Italy, for the European 16 & Under Championships.

The tournament’s unique format sees four clubs across Parma host the competition, with the opening rounds spread across the different venues - Sporting Club Parma, TC President, Circolo del Castellazzo & TC Parma - before the decisive stages move to Sporting Club Parma for the second half of the week.

The Championships have a distinguished history, with 13 former world No.1 singles players and 14 former doubles world No.1s among their past champions. Some of the biggest names in professional tennis have lifted the European 16 & Under title, including Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek and Holger Rune.

This week, a new group of Europe’s leading young players will be looking to add their names to that list.

With the European 16 & Under Championships starting tomorrow, some familiar names are back in Parma hoping to go further than they did twelve months ago.

Stan Put (NED) heads the boys’ entry list after finishing runner-up here last year. The Dutch player returns looking to go one step further, with Sebastian Tejerina (POL), Benoit Geldof (FRA) and István Damján Mókán (HUN) following him in the top four.

Among the home players, Zeno Roveri (ITA) is the highest placed in the boys’ field at #22 on the entry list. He may not start the week among the leading names on paper, but will have home clay and an Italian crowd behind him.

There is another returning player with unfinished business at the top of the girls’ field. Maria Valentina Pop (ROU) is back after reaching the semifinals last year and heads the entry list this time around. Katerina Zajickova (CZE) follows, with Tea Kovacevic (BIH) also among the leading players. Kovacevic is already very familiar with this stage, having arrived in Parma last year as the reigning 14&U European champion.

Home hopes in the girls’ draw will be led by Camilla Olga Castracani (ITA). Ninth on the entry list, she is the highest-placed Italian across either singles field heading into the Championships

Before the competition begins, players and teams were officially welcomed to Parma earlier today at the Opening Ceremony, followed by a session of the Tennis Europe Junior School. Tennis Europe representatives welcomed the players and introduced them to the organisation, with a heads-or-tails game putting their knowledge of the European Junior Committee to the test. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) then took over for a session on anti-doping, before Tennis Europe partner Mental Point continued the programme.
