Tennis Europe has announced a one-year partnership with Thiem Academy Burgenland, which joins the organisation as an Official Academy Partner.
Thiem Academy Burgenland provides a comprehensive high-performance environment combining tailored coaching, campus life and educational pathways. The partnership marks an exciting new chapter in the Academy’s relationship with Tennis Europe, bringing together two organisations aligned in their commitment to developing the next generation of tennis talents while promoting a more sustainable future for the sport, in accordance with Tennis Europe’s commitment to the UN Sport for Climate Action and GreenTennis initiatives.
As a mentor and ambassador of the Academy, former world #3 and US Open Champion Dominic Thiem has been an outspoken proponent of sustainability in tennis and will spearhead a variety of related campaigns for Tennis Europe over the coming months.
Signing the agreement, Dominic stated, “Having competed on the Tennis Europe Junior Tour myself, I know how important these tournaments are for young players and their development. At the Thiem Academy Burgenland, our goal is to help young talents reach their full potential, both on and off the court. That's why I'm really happy to see our Academy partnering with Tennis Europe. It's a great opportunity to support the next generation of players while also working together to make tennis more environmentally responsible.”
Located about an hour from Vienna airport in the town of Oberpullendorf, in the Burgenland region of Austria, the facilities are more than just a training centre. A 500-seater covered centre court joins 11 other clay courts as the jewel of the tennis facilities. In addition, four immaculately maintained indoor hard courts are located on site, as well as dormitories for resident athletes, a fully equipped gym and training area as well as a rooftop wellness zone with spa and sauna. There are also meeting rooms and conference facilities. Part of the well-respected Sports Hotel Kurz family, the world-class venue is already familiar to Tennis Europe, having hosted the European Junior Championships (18 & Under) since 2024.
Tennis Europe Vice-President, Development Committee Chair and Green Tennis initiative leader Cem Tinaz added, “We are pleased to welcome the Academy as a partner and to have Dominic championing the Green Tennis movement alongside Tennis Europe. He brings exactly the type of profile we need to put environmental sustainability on the agenda of players, clubs and fans across Europe. With such an important voice by our side, we are confident our message will reach far beyond our own network.”
This year’s European 18 & Under champion Thilo Behrmann is just one of many talented athletes already training at the Thiem Academy Burgenland. For more information about the Academy, click here.
