ITF/Tennis Europe 14&U Development Championships
The Development Championships were first held in 1996 and were devised to give leading players from developing tennis nations the opportunity to travel and compete at Tennis Europe Junior Tour events against players of a similar standard. Nowadays the event is a closed tournament for invited players from ITF Tier 1* nations and consist of two consecutive Category 2 tournaments, alongside a 12 & Under training camp in the first week. The aim of the event is that players from less developed nations have the opportunity to get a taste of the life on the Tennis Europe Junior Tour, with all costs covered by Tennis Europe.
Over the years, players such as Victoria Azarenka, Simona Halep, Jelena Ostapenko, Grigor Dimitrov and Marcos Baghdatis have benefitted from participating in the event.
* Tier 1 countries in 2020 are Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Turkey
