Over 100 athletes from 17 nations will gather in Crete from 24-28 September for the 18th European Beach Tennis Championships, promising five days of world-class competition.
Since its debut in 2007, the event has established itself as a highlight of the European beach tennis season, attracting many of the sport’s top players each year.
In the men’s draw, attention will be on the reigning champion and world's top ranked player Mattia Spoto of Italy, who claimed his second gold medal at the Championships last year. In 2025, he returns with a new partner, Federico Galeazzi, as he looks to defend his crown. France’s Nicolas Giannotti, a finalist in 2024 and champion in both 2022 and 2023, will seek to reclaim the title this year alongside Matieu Guegano. With several top-ranked Europeans on the entry list, the men’s side promises fierce battles and potential surprises.
The women’s draw will look very different without Italy's Giulia Gasparri, the five-time consecutive champion and record-holder at the event. Compatriot Nicole Nobile, a five-time finalist, will be determined to finally capture gold, this year teaming up with Veronica Casadei, ranked seventh in the world.
The Hellenic Tennis Federation will host the event for the fourth time, with matches scheduled at the Karteros Beach Sports Centre. Prior to the Championships, two junior Beach Tennis competitions will take place from 20 to 23 September, featuring categories for players aged 14 & Under and 18 & Under.
