€250,000 EU Grant Secures Launch of SafeTennis Project for Safer European Tennis

Tennis Europe is proud to announce that the Erasmus+ SPORT application, “Safeguarding in European Tennis: Building a Safer Future”, has been officially accepted by the European Commission and awarded funding of €250,000.

A major step forward for safeguarding in tennis, the SafeTennis project aims to build a safer, more inclusive environment for players, coaches, and officials across Europe.

Over the next several years, the project will focus on five key pillars:

  • Developing and implementing a Standardised Safeguarding Framework for tennis organisations.
  • Delivering tailored education and training programmes to strengthen safeguarding practices.
  • Establishing a confidential case management system with proper reporting and follow-up mechanisms.
  • Fostering a sustainable safeguarding culture embedded in daily tennis activities.
  • Implementing a robust Monitoring & Evaluation system to track impact and ensure long-term effectiveness.

Led by the Lithuanian Tennis Federation, the SafeTennis project brings together the Romanian, Turkish, and Hungarian Tennis Federations, alongside academic and innovation partners: The Hague University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands) and Collective Innovation (Norway).

Tennis Europe and the International Tennis Federation (ITF) will join as external experts, offering strategic guidance and support throughout the project’s implementation.

Launching in the coming months, SafeTennis represents a multi-year collaboration at the intersection of sport and academia – ensuring that safeguarding becomes a shared responsibility and daily reality across European tennis.
