Tennis Europe is pleased to announce the creation of a new category of elite 16 & Under events in 2023 as part of a drive to improve the opportunities for players of the Junior Tour’s oldest age category.
The ‘Super Category’ will be an extraordinary tournament that has been judged to have performed well beyond expectations and will be reserved for only the most elite and prestigious 16 & Under events. A maximum of 3-4 tournaments will be upgraded, with new applications also welcome.
National Associations interested in hosting a Super Category tournament are invited to apply to the Junior Department by the deadline of Friday 30th September. Tennis Europe will take into consideration – among other factors – the completed application, tournament rating and requested tournament date.
The applications will be assessed, and final decisions will be announced not later than October.
A Super Category was successfully introduced to the 14 & Under Tour in 2020, elevating the ONE-SGM Christmas Cup, Khimki (RUS), Les Petits As, Tarbes (FRA), Kungens Kanna & Drottningens Pris, Stockholm (SWE), Taça Internacional Maia (POR) and the Internationale Deutsche Tennismeisterschaften Dueren (GER) to become an elite series of events awarding increased ranking points and providing other benefits and services for participants.
