Megrabian & Ounmuang breeze to Windmill Cup titles

Category 1

14&U | DunoAir Windmill Cup | Oosterbeek, NED

Players came from all across the globe to compete in the week’s sole Category 1 event, which took place in the Netherlands. So high was the level of competition at the Windmill Cup that many of the top seeds were surprised by the visitors, as is evidenced by the doubles results as well as many singles scores.

Top boys’ seed Alexander Blockx (BEL) was forced to withdraw in his semi-final against Kyvan Rietkerk (NED). In the final, the local player faced another Belgian, the eleventh seed Andre Megrabian, who had just come off a tough three-set semi-final win over Yu Maeda (JPN). It was one-way traffic in the final, however, as Megrabian won his second title from three finals so far in 2019.

Top girls’ seed Daria Yesypchuk (UKR) exited the tournament in round one, an opening which Thailand’s Salakthip Ounmuang took advantage of. In the final, she met Jermine Sherif (EGY), a finalist at Open du Stade Français last week. The Egyptian had beaten second seed Anna Paradisi (ITA) in the semis for a shot at the title, but Ounmuang was too strong on this occasion, taking the trophy with a 6-1 6-2 win and extending her Tennis Europe Junior Tour record to 10 wins and just one loss. | Windmill Cup Photo Gallery
