European Masters Club Championships breaks records in Antalya

A record-breaking edition of the European Masters Club Championships has drawn to a conclusion in Antalya, Türkiye, where the event was held at the Megasaray Club Belek in association with the Turkish Tennis Federation.

In all, 573 players representing 116 club teams from 16 Tennis Europe member nations were in action across two weeks, with the younger age categories playing in Week 1 and the more senior events held in Week 2.

First established in 1983, when only a Men’s 45s category was played, the Championships have expanded to include all senior age categories for both men and women up to 75 and Over. Eligible teams are national club champions and runners-up from all European countries, as well as the three medallist teams from the previous year’s Masters Club Championships. Players are rewarded with ITF World Tennis Tour Masters ranking points for their performances.

Among the big names to take part were ITF World Tennis Tour Masters Men’s 65+ world #1 Glenn Busby, and former pros including Stefan Koubek, Bohdan Ulihrach and Jan Vacek. Busby, from Australia, played for Tennis-Club 1899 e.V. Blau-Weiss (GER), and loved his time in Antalya, telling us “It’s been a sensational week. The tournament is run really smoothly. The competition is great, and the players’ party was exceptional with some great entertainment.”

Tennis Europe Head of Senior Tennis Nadja Koran said, “This event is unique and very special; it’s a joy to see the clubs come back each year, often returning with family and friends and really enjoying the friendly competition. It’s a source of great pride for the players to compete against leading clubs from other nations, and to fight for a European title. We’d like to thank the Turkish Tennis Federation for their continued support for this event, and the hosts here at Megasaray for providing such ideal facilities and organisation. Everybody is already looking forward to coming back next year!”
