14&U Cat1 | Rakovnik (CZE)

Pohar mesta Rakovnik U14
Moritz Freitag (AUT) and Romana Dekanova (SVK) have won this week’s major event on the TEJT in Rakovnik. It was a case of mirrored stories for the champions; both scored maiden TEJT singles wins in 2025, both had tasted disappointment in a previous final this season and both now add a second singles title to their respective overall TEJT tallies.

Top boys’ seed and #8 in the Race, Max Lorincik (SVK) fell in the quarterfinals, paving the way for Francisco Sardinha (POR) to advance to his second singles final of the year. It was not to be, as Freitag was too strong in the final. After scoring big wins over seeded players (Haqim Kamal GBR #14/Filip Sebek CZE #8/Luys Calin GER #5) before the final, the Austrian beat Sardinha 6-1 6-4 in the final.

It was a mixed bag for Dekanova who peppered in some easy wins among some tough three-set battles on her way to the final. There, she faced Brit Grace Watson, who had eliminated top seed Eva Halfarova (CZE) in the semis, in what was another come-from-behind three-setter which the Slovak won 4-6 6-1 6-4.

There was some consolation for Watson, as she teamed with compatriot April Sackflame to win the doubles, while the boys’ doubles title went to Calin and fellow German Lucas Ariel Herrera Sanchez.

Professional Tennis

Madrid Open
After winning a main draw match at the Miami Open 1000, former TEJT 16&U #1 Federico Cinà (ITA) was making waves again at a Masters 1000 event. After another R1 win, this time in the Spanish capital, the Italian felt “so good and very happy about this win.” Cinà stumbled in a tough three-set match in the next round against an experienced Sebastian Korda but was pleased with his progress and described his time on the TEJT as extremely beneficial to his development. “I played a lot, I mean really A LOT, on the Tennis Europe Junior Tour from 12&U until now and these tournaments helped me so much passing from the juniors into the pros.”

It was a successful week for Europeans in the upper echelons of the game. Aryna Sabalenka is now in rarified company winning a third title in Madrid, taking out former TEJT #1 Coco Gauff in the final. There were two European semifinalists in the form of Iga Swiatek and Elina Svitolina. In an all-European men’s final, Indian Wells champion Jack Draper lost to Casper Ruud in the men’s decider. Lorenzo Musetti, yes you guessed it, another former TEJT #1, on the back of his run to the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000 final and semis in Madrid, will make his well-deserved top-10 ATP debut.
Estoril Challenger
More good news for European players in Portugal, which saw another former TEJT #1 player, Luca Nardi (ITA) advance to the last eight, along with four other players from Europe. The final saw Andrea Pellegrino (ITA) play against Alex Michelsen (USA), with the American emerging victorious.

Catalonia Open
Played in Vic, just outside of Barcelona, Dalma Galfi of Hungary was too strong in the final for the recently re-patriated Swiss player Rebeka Masarova. The WTA 125 tournament boasted a strong field including names such as Leylah Fernandez, Bianca Andreescu and yet another former TEJT #1 Oksana Selekhmeteva, who was a semifinalist.

Elsewhere on the TEJT:

  • Thanos Xirotagaros and Konstantina Volonaki won on home soil at the 16&U Cat3 event in Marathon, Greece. It is a first TEJT singles win for Xirotagaros and the third for Volonaki, who was also the runner-up last week in GS14 in Piestany (Cat1). Both players also left Marathon as doubles champs!
  • Ellen Kesiknen (FIN) and Maxime Belloy Perez (ESP) won the 12&U Category 1 in Maglie, Italy

  • Nestor Tsuzhba and Lea Bertos (CRO) won in singles and doubles in Čakovec, Croatia, a 12&U Cat2 event

  • At the joint 14/16&U Category 3 event in Amsterdam, local players took three out of the four titles: Koen Ceelaert (B14), Mila van der Lecq (G14), Ivan van Reiten (B16), while Pole Antonia Snochowska won the G16 title. The organisers also shared great content on social media throughout the week, with this being just one example:
