16&U Touring Team completes successful trip

The ITF/Tennis Europe Touring Teams, financed by the Grand Slam Player Development Programme, continue to impress and show promising results. Each year, two teams – 14 & Under and 16 & Under – get to travel around Europe, train with ITF coaches and participate in a series of high level international tournaments.

This year’s 16 & Under group made the most of the opportunity, posting some remarkable results at each tournament, where they were accompanied by coaches Vanja Stuhli (BIH) and Alexander Jurgens (EST). While the players are packing their bags (and trophies) to return home, here’s a look at what they achieved during their month with the team:

  • Kerem Yilmaz (TUR) won the Category 1 tournament in Sarajevo, played the singles final and won the doubles title at the Category 1 event in Warsaw
  • Diana Simionescu (ROU) claimed the doubles title in Sarajevo and reached two semifinals, in Warsaw and at the 18&U J5 tournament in Bielsko-Biala
  • Laima Vladson and Beatrise Zeltina made a great team and won multiple doubles trophies – Warsaw, Szczawno Zdroj and Bielsko Biala
  • Oskari Paldanius and Arturs Zagars were another happy duo, as they won doubles in Sarajevo
  • Beatrise Zeltina was a semifinalist in Sarajevo and Szczawno Zdroj, played the final in Warsaw and won the title in Bielsko Biala
  • Arturs Zagars reached the semifinal in Sarajevo
  • Alan Wazny reached the singles and doubles semifinal in Szczawno Zdroj, and in Bielsko Bial he played the singles and doubles final

A position on the ITF/Tennis Europe Touring Team can play an important role in a player's development. Several current top players, including Grigor Dimitrov and Jelena Ostapenko, are amongst those who benefitted from playing on the Teams during their junior careers.
