Monte-Carlo Masters kicks off with Junior School

The Tennis Europe Junior Masters in Monte-Carlo kicked off on Tuesday evening with a special session of the Junior School.

The 32 players in attendance took part in an interactive session that included topics ranging from mental health to media responsibilities and social media.

The group was joined by 2016 Junior Masters runner-up Holger Rune. The rising star answered questions and shared his experiences of transitioning from juniors to professional tennis.

The season-ending Masters gathers together the top 8 European boys and girls of the Tour’s 14 and 16 & Under age categories according to their performances at Tennis Europe events throughout the year. The qualifiers in 2021 have combined to win a total of 91 singles titles and 983 matches on the Tour this season.

This is the first edition of the championship at its new home, the Monte-Carlo Country Club, where the event is being hosted by the Monaco Tennis Federation. The players were welcomed in an opening ceremony on the club’s iconic centre court after a day of practise under sunny skies.

Former champions include the likes of Rafa Nadal, Alexander Zverev, Kim Clijsters and Belinda Bencic. The four champions to be crowned on Friday will each receive a one-week stay at the Mouratoglou Academy in southern France.

Play gets underway tomorrow at 10 am and will be live streamed on the Tennis Channel for viewers in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and the UK.
