Top level events return to Junior Tour

Top-tier events return to the Tennis Europe Junior Tour this week for the first time in over a year as Category 1 and Super Category tournaments highlight the action in Week 17.

Qualifying is over and main draw matches begin Monday at the 14&U Super Category Christmas Cup presented by ONE SGM 2021 in Khimki, Russia. Usually scheduled in the first week of January, the event was postponed until now and organisers have once again put together a show-stopping event worthy of its status. Home players, and current European #1s Timofei Derepasko and Alina Korneeva headline a field which features nine out of the top 10 boys and four top 20 girls, as well as players from Italy, Switzerland and Kazakhstan to name a few. Live streaming is available from the tournament throughout the week here.

The week’s other top-flight event is the 16&U Category 1 event taking place in Vic near Barcelona, Spain. The ‘Torneo Internacional de Tenis Sub 16 XIX Memorial Nacho Juncosa’ has also moved from its traditional date and venue but has lost none of its clout. The top seed is tenth-ranked local, Martin Landaluce. The Spaniard began 2020 strongly, winning Super Category 14 & Under events in Khimki and at the Kungens Kanna & Drottningen Pris in Stockholm before the pandemic put the Tour on hold. He’s joined by a strong field which boasts players from as far afield as Japan, Australia, Ecuador, India and Russia amongst others.

There is also plenty of Category 2 and 3 tournament action elsewhere this week, with events taking place in Cyprus, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Romania, Croatia and Hungary. For a complete listing, click here

For the safety of all participants, Tennis Europe Junior Tour events are subject to strict new COVID-19 protocols.
