Juniors Round-Up

Italian teams once again dominated at this year’s junior events:

18 & Under

The competition started with a Round Robin stage, followed by semifinals and final.

BOYS
The boys’ matches went smoothly, with the top two seeds reaching the final. While last year we had a full-Italian last match, this time top seeds Luca Andreolini and Niccolo Gasparri (ITA) faced Spaniards Alejandro Alcala Rios and Valentin Volpe Bravo, seeded 2. With a 6-1 7-5 win, Italy once again proved its strength in beach tennis.

GIRLS
The four teams qualified for the final draw included two teams from Spain, one representing Italy and one from Germany. There was a surprising upset as Charlize Hummel and Cristina Schaale (GER) managed to obtain victory against the tournament’s favorite team, top seeds Maria Martinez Seron and Daniela Rodriguez Perera (ESP). The German team faced Italy in the final, represented by Elena Francesconi and Irene Mariotti. Completing a sweep of 18 & Under titles, the Italian girls brought one more gold medal to the team.

MIXED
Gold: Elena Francesconi & Niccolo Gasparri (ITA)

Silver: Daniela Rodriguez Perera & Alvaro Garcia Gonzalez (ESP)

Bronze: Enola Hochfoerffer & Thomas Portolleau (FRA)

14 & Under

BOYS
The Italian marathon of victories continued in the 14 & Under competition. This time, the ones claiming the gold were Davide Cavalieri & Nicola De Siena, who defeated Tiago Andreoletti & Timothe Koumba-Boutin from France. The bronze went to Jorge Mendez Martinez & Gabriel Colomar Torres (ESP).

GIRLS
Maria Gomez Martinez and Alexia Machin Ramos made a great team representing Spain and finished the competition at the top. The silver medal went to Italians Emma Bissoli Pasetto and Giulia Nobili, while the bronze was claimed by the winners’ compatriots, Claudia Casas and Eva Santana Sanchez. The Spanish winners thus became the only non-Italian team to claim a junior gold medal in 2022.

MIXED
Gold: Giulia Nobili & Nicola De Siena (ITA)

Silver: Maria Gomez Martinez & Jorge Mendez Martinez (ESP)

Bronze: Amelie Thiant & Timothe Koumba-Boutin (FRA)
