25 Years of the Tennis Europe Junior Tour

A special souvenir magazine has been published in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Tennis Europe Junior Tour.

Available to read free-of-charge online, the 108-page glossy magazine contains interviews with a host of the tennis world’s most famous names. Andy Murray recalls his first meetings with rivals Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, while Timea Bacsinsky shares the lessons she learned while travelling on the 14 & Under circuit. Other contributors keen to share their memories include the likes of Steffi Graf, Ivan Lendl, Marion Bartoli, Andrea Petkovic, Agnieszka Radwanska, Feliciano Lopez and Svetlana Kuznetsova. Judy Murray explains how the Tour provides important learning opportunities for parents and coaches, as well as the competitors.

In addition to the interviews, the magazine also reviews the main events from this 25th anniversary season, as well as an in-depth look at the Tour’s flagship competition, the European Junior Championships, which celebrated its 40th edition in 2015. There is a potted history of each of the 25 years as well as detailed honour rolls from the main individual and team championships.

Tennis Europe Chief Executive Officer Olli Mäenpää commented; “The magazine has been a labour of love for the editorial team that has been working on it throughout the year. It was heartening to see that so many top players had great memories and were eager to contribute their experiences and to give advice to today’s junior players. Whether you are a tennis fan, a player past or present, a parent or an event organiser, there is something for everyone in the magazine. We’d like to thank everyone that has contributed to the project, and hope that everyone enjoys reading it.”

The Tennis Europe Junior Tour was launched in 1990, bringing together new events with some of the most prestigious pre-existing junior tournaments in Europe to form a new calendar of 40 tournaments. Since then, the Tour has grown continuously and in 2016 comprised of 366 events across three age categories (12, 14 and 16 & Under) in 45 nations.
