Mouratoglou Tennis Academy opens its doors

Tennis Europe’s official partner the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy celebrated the Grand Opening of its new base in Biot, near Nice on the French Riviera this week.

Following the completion of two years of construction work, 1,200 special guests including world #1 Novak Djokovic and 22-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams were on hand to get a preview of the academy’s facilities. The event also featured a charity auction in aid of the Champseed Foundation, which works to assist promising junior players that lack the financial resources necessary to become champions, an exhibition in which Novak and Serena joined some of the Academy’s most promising players – including Tennis Europe Junior Tour standouts Alexey Zakharov, and Chun Hsin Tseng, and a live show from DJ Bob Sinclar.

The Academy boasts 34 courts (17 hard and 17 clay, including 8 indoors and 6 equipped with Playsight video technology), a sports centre, gym, an athletics track, padel courts, swimming pools, as well as a pro shop, medical centre, bars and restaurants and a 4-star hotel resort. For students of the academy there is a 3,500m2 campus with 70 single, double and triple en-suite rooms and 15 class rooms.

CEO Olli Mäenpää represented Tennis Europe at the Grand Opening and commented, “These are truly amongst the finest tennis installations anywhere in the world and we congratulate the Mouratoglou Academy on creating not just first-class facilities, but also in fostering a great atmosphere. As Patrick [Mouratoglou] said, this is just the beginning, and we are looking forward to working closely with the Academy as a base for our events, players and coaches in the coming years.

Already this year, the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy has served as the venue for two successful Tennis Europe Junior Tour events, the 12 and 16 & Under Mouratoglou Cups.
