A total of 97 doubles pairings from 21 nations have so far confirmed entries for the ninth European Beach Tennis Championships, which are due to take place at the Santa Marina Holiday Village in Sozopol, Bulgaria from 9-11 September.

Well over 150 players are expected to take part in the event, which consists of men’s, women’s and mixed doubles competitions. The 2016 edition will also see the introduction of a junior competition, which will be held alongside the main event, for players aged 18 & Under.

The national entry list is led by Italy, whose teams have dominated the past editions of the tournament, winning the men's and women's gold medals at all previous events. Last year’s tournament saw the world’s top two players - Michele Cappelletti & Matteo Marighella add the European to the World Championship title they won some weeks earlier.

The women’s title also went to Italy, with victory for Federica Bacchetta & Sofia Cimatti. Russia had an exceptional event, claiming both bronze medals, as well as victory in the mixed doubles championship for Nikita Burmakin & Daria Churakova.

France, Russia, San Marino and Spain are also likely to field strong teams, while the host nation will have high hopes and is able to nominate one additional team in each competition.

Player nominations will be revealed after the nomination deadline on 18th August.
