European Juniors shine in Melbourne

European players have claimed all four junior titles at the Australian Open following emotional wins on Saturday for Clara Tauson (DEN) and Lorenzo Musetti (ITA).

16 year old reigning European Junior Champion Tauson, the world #1, beat Canada’s Leylah Fernandez in straight sets to secure her first Junior Slam title and extend her current ITF Juniors win streak to 22 matches.

Also aged 16 and seeded #1, Musetti had a very different battle in the boys’ final, recovering from a set down against Emilio Nava (USA), and saving a match point before eventually recording an exhilarating 4-6 6-2 7-6(12) win in what was his second Slam final.

In yesterday’s doubles finals, Jonas Forejtek & Dalibor Svrcina of the Czech Republic beat Nava and his compatriot cannon Kingsley, while Adrienn Nagy of Hungary teamed with Japan’s Natsumi Kawaguchi to beat another American team, Chloe Beck & Emma Navarro.

The immediate future of European tennis is looking bright!
