ITF/Tennis Europe Development Championships in Antalya

The 2018 ITF/Tennis Europe 14 & Under Development Championships are taking place this week in Antalya, Turkey.

The event is comprised of two consecutive Category 2 Tennis Europe Junior Tour closed tournaments for players from the ten ITF Tier 1 nations, and will conclude on March 17th. In total 42 players are in action; 22 boys and 20 girls.

Running alongside the event is a 12 & Under Training Camp for players from the same nations. The participants will have the chance to put their training into action next week when they compete at the GD Tennis Cup, a Tennis Europe Junior Tour event.

Nations taking part are Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kosovo, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Moldova and Montenegro, plus the hosts, Turkey.

The ITF/Tennis Europe Development Championships were first held in 1996 and were introduced to give leading players from developing tennis nations the opportunity to travel to and compete at back-to-back events against players of a similar standard. Several of today’s top professionals, including players such as Victoria Azarenka, Simona Halep and Grigor Dimitrov, have benefitted from playing the event in the past.
