Jacques Dupré Elected as President of Tennis Europe
Jacques Dupré of France has been elected to serve as President of Tennis Europe at the organisation's Annual General Meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark. Mr. Dupré replaces John James of Great Britain, who stood down from the role after two terms in office, and defeated fellow candidate Jarl Whist of Norway by 58 votes to 12.
"I am truly honoured to become the first representative of the French Tennis Federation to serve as President of Tennis Europe", said Mr. Dupré, "I'd like to thank my predecessor for his hard work and dedication over the last six years and I look forward to continuing his work together with the new Board of Management, Chief Executive Officer and staff of Tennis Europe."
Board of Management positions were also contested at the AGM, with four new faces joining the team for the period until March 2011. The new Board, in alphabetical order (* denotes re-election) is as follows:
Peter Bretherton (GBR), Michele Brunetti* (ITA), Philios Christodoulou* (CYP), Günther Lang (GER), Aleksei Selivanenko (RUS), José Antonio Senz de Broto* (ESP), Stefan Tzvetkov (BUL), Ayda Uluç* (TUR).
Hosted by the Danish Tennis Association, the 34th Annual General Meeting of Tennis Europe was the most successful yet, with delegates from a record 43 member nations in attendance. The Danish Minister of Culture Brian Mikkelsen officially opened the two-day event, held from 29th-30th March. Speakers included ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti and Executive Vice-President Juan Margets, while the guest of honour was HRH the Duchess of Gloucester, LTA Honorary President and member of the British delegation.
