2008 Europa Cup - 14 & Under Girls

Ukraine recorded their first ever Europa Cup victory, coming from behind to defeat top seeds Russia in a marathon doubles match at the final rounds in Loano, Italy.

Russian #2 Yulia Putintseva put the Russians ahead with a 61 26 62 win over Kateryna Kozlova in the first singles match before Elina Svitolina struck back, upsetting European #1 Daria Gavrilova 26 60 61 to level the match. The four players returned to the court for the decisive doubles match, eventually won by the Ukrainian pair 64 57 62.

The two teams will be joined by fellow finalists Belgium, Great Britain and Serbia at the final rounds of the World Junior Tennis competition in Prostejov, Czech Republic in early August.
