2009 European Junior Championships - 14 & Under

Nikola Milojevic justified his top seeding to win the European 14 & Under Championship title with a comprehensive 62 60 win over sixteenth-seeded Briton Kyle Edmund on the final day of play in Pilzen (CZE). Edmund had upset three higher-ranked seeds on his way to the final, but had no answer to the greater power and consistency of the #1.

Milojevic becomes the first Serb ever to win a European Championship title (though compatriot Novak Djokovic won for Yugoslavia in 2001) and consolidates his position as Europe's #1 player in the age group; a position he is now guaranteed to hold until the end of the year. The title is his fifth of the year, having previously won prestigious Category 1 events in Tarbes, Livorno, Maia and Bolton.

In the girl's final, Viktoriya Tomova of Bulgaria ensured that she will take over as the new European #1 thanks to a 62 62 win over home hope Petra Rohanova. Tomova had been in dominant form throughout the week, losing just twelve games in five matches on her way to the final. She is the third Bulgarian girl to win a 14 & Under European title, following in the footsteps of Magdalena Maleeva and Lubomira Bacheva, who won in 1988 and 1989 respectively.

Rohanova will take some consolation from having won the doubles title. She teamed with Gabriela Pantuckova to beat French pair Lou Brouleau and Leolia Jeanjean 64 36 10-8. It is the third time in four years that a Czech Pair wins the girls' doubles crown at the 14 & under event.

Gonçalo Loureiro and Frederico Silva made history by winning the boys doubles In edging a 63 36 10-8 win over Routa and Stanek, the pair became the first Portuguese players ever to win a European Junior Championships title.
